With your free Bürgerportal account, you can connect with participating organisations in your area. You choose which participating organisations you connect with. When more join later, simply use the same account.
The information on this website is available in several languages. The agreement for using your Bürgerportal account is concluded in German. Choosing a different website language does not change the language of the agreement.
Get started with Bürgerportal in three steps
Create an account
Register, confirm your email address and add a second authentication factor to secure your sign-in.
Choose an organisation
Find participating public authorities and organisations in your area and request a connection to your Bürgerportal account.
Take care of things online
Once your access has been approved, you can submit applications and documents, read digital mail and exchange messages — depending on the services your organisation offers.
Sign in securely. Preferably with a passkey.
Protect your Bürgerportal account from unauthorised access. A passkey makes this particularly simple and secure: sign in without a password and confirm access using, for example, your fingerprint, facial recognition or your device PIN.
Your passkey is tied to your device and provides additional protection against phishing. Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) also recommends using passkeys.

Our recommendation: sign in without a password using a digital access key and your device’s unlock method, such as your fingerprint, facial recognition or device PIN.
Passkey hardware token
Use a passkey on a separate hardware token, such as a YubiKey. Your access key remains stored on the token.
Authenticator app
Confirm your sign-in with the time-limited code from your authenticator app.
Text message code
Receive a code by text message on your mobile phone and use it alongside your password to confirm your sign-in.
Email code
Receive a code at your verified email address and use it alongside your password to confirm your sign-in.
Connect with the organisations you need.
Search for participating organisations in your area and request access directly in your Bürgerportal account. You will find out which details the organisation needs to identify you.
Whether it is your local council, Jobcenter or a social services provider, you use the same Bürgerportal account for all connected organisations. Use this account to request additional access too.

Let your organisation know that you would like to use its services online too. Give us its contact address and we will introduce it to Bürgerportal.
Your data stays in Europe.
Bürgerportal runs on servers in Germany. Your data is processed exclusively in Europe.

What support is available for using the portal?
You can adjust the display and enlarge content. Our help page explains app settings, keyboard navigation and read-aloud features. It also explains how to report an accessibility barrier.
My organisation has not joined yet. What can I do?
You can already create your account and explore the demo portal. Feel free to tell your organisation about Bürgerportal and let it know that you would like to use its services online too. Once it has its own portal and approves your access, you can take care of your requests there online.
Can I register in the app?
Yes. You can create your Bürgerportal account directly in the app or in your browser. You can then use the same account for both.
Can I end a connection?
Yes. A connection to an organisation is separate from your Bürgerportal account. You can end access to one organisation without deleting your entire account.
How can I delete my account?
