# Complete applications, submit documents and stay in touch.

Complete an application. Send a missing document. Read digital mail or resolve a query. With Bürgerportal, you can take care of many of these tasks easily online.

Each organisation — such as your town or local council — decides which digital services are available to you. Once it has approved your access, you can use those services through your [Bürgerportal account](https://www.buergerportal.de/en/your-account).

## Complete and submit applications

Complete your organisation’s application step by step online and submit it with the required supporting documents. Follow-up questions and official decisions from your organisation come back the same way — directly in Bürgerportal.

The online applications available to you depend on the services your organisation offers.

### Step-by-step guidance through your application

- You will find out which details and supporting documents are needed as you complete the application.

- After submitting it, you receive a PDF confirmation with a reference number.

## Submit documents online. Check they have arrived.

Upload existing files or scan paper documents using [the app’s scanning feature](https://www.buergerportal.de/en/app). Under “Gesendet” (Sent), you can see whether the transfer was successful.

Important: a successful transfer does not mean that your request has already been processed or approved.

### Before you submit

- Are all pages included and clearly legible?

- Is the file relevant to your request? Check the document before uploading it.

## Your digital mailbox. Find your mail again.

Read messages from your organisation directly in your mailbox. “Posteingang” (Inbox) and “Gesendet” (Sent) help you keep track.

If your organisation needs a reply, this is shown in the portal. The relevant reply forms help you respond quickly and provide all the necessary information.

### When a reply is needed

- Check which information or documents are required.

- Pay attention to any deadlines given.

- Use a suitable reply form where possible.

## Find your appointment. Without a long search.

Your appointments are listed in the portal with the date, time and location.

You can confirm appointments directly in the portal and add them to your calendar.

### Before your appointment

- Check the date, time and location of your appointment.

- Confirm your appointment directly in the portal.

- If you cannot attend, cancel your appointment as early as possible.

## No need to start from scratch with every question.

Send your question directly to the relevant department. Your message and the replies remain together as a conversation you can follow.

While the conversation in your Bürgerportal account is open, you can add more information. This means you do not have to explain the context again with every message.

### Make your question specific

- Say which request or matter you are referring to.

- Explain what information you are missing or what is unclear.

- Add follow-up questions to the existing conversation while it is open.

## What you need to know for everyday use.

How large can my files be?

You can upload files up to 25 MB. You will see which file formats are accepted for each process when you upload them.

Can I continue an application later?

Drafts are saved locally on your device. To continue, use the same browser on the same device. A draft on your computer is not automatically available on your smartphone.

Will I see the same features everywhere?

No. Your organisation decides which sections and processes it offers. Some provide additional information, such as details of payments or benefit periods.

Can I take a look first?

Yes. Connect the demo portal to your free Bürgerportal account to view examples and try the steps yourself.

## Take your first step online.
